Hi
The white worms sound like pot worms, and are happy in acidic conditions, they wont harm your worms or wormery.

Your worms have left for some reason, does the compost smell ? too wet, too dry ? too much food.

have a look around and see where else the worms are and put them back into the wormery, they usually hide quite close and are under bricks or pots.

the hoover bag contents shouldnt have upset them, after all its usually food, skin, hair & dirt !!

try again, and keep a VERY close eye on them

Im tempted to say just put your worms in and start again.....
however if there was a problem - it might still be there.

Take out whats there, and start again with some old used compost as initial bedding - make sure its not too dry, mix it with some damp shredded paper / cardboard, and keep an eye on them.
