excessive condensation?

Post by mebee » Thu Oct 15, 2015 7:53 am

I have owned my wormery for just over three weeks. There seems to be quite a bit of condensation on the lid and in the reservoir though we only used a atomiser water spray to dampen the initial wormery set up.  The worms are still in the basket and not trying to escape, is this usual?

Hi medee, welcome to the world of worms.
You say you have condensation in the lid and in the reservoir (sump). In the sump is it just condensation/dampness or is there water gathering. If it is just condensation it is perfectly normal and may be due to no more than the temperature fluctuation between night and day. If water is gathering then at this stage of you bins development then you need to find out why and take some simple actions to keep you bin and worms healthy. Is you bin out side? Have you had much rain? If so you could try to cover the bin or leave the sump tap open a little so water can drain away and the is no chance of worms drowning.
If it's because you have been feeding a lot of very wet food or have over wet the bedding then mix some shredded correlated cardboard in with the bedding to help dry it out a bit. In fact regardless of the reason for the wetness adding cardboard will do nothing but good and often solves the problem.
The fact that the worms are not trying to escape show they are happy and appreciate the care you provide.

HTH
Enjoy your new family
Regards Willy
