As a newcomer to the wormery world, can the worms convert human or animal hair?

Yes they can, but it can be slow so not to much at a time. I put the bulk of mine in my outdoor compost bins.

Human and animal hair is the competition. I'm eager to apply the info and do extra research on forum posting.

Hi mebee welcome to the world of worms. The answer to your question is yes they can can convert human and pet hair to valuable compost HOWEVER it takes forever in a small worm bin. If possible put hair into a outside compost bin where it may take six months to break down.

We had a customer once who bought a wormery for her hair salon. It took ages for the hair to break down
I guess it's logical if you think that hair is dead and (if you have long hair) it sits on your head for many years!

Hi Ronnie, apart from being slow to break-down I would be concerned about all the chemicals that may be on the hair which could harm the worms or even my soil.Just walk down the "hair care" aisle of a supermarket and look at the amount of products to put on your hair it's scary.
Worms don't have hair like ours so what could they do with the residue left on the hair?
