Re: What did you feed your worms today?
Ive just fed my worms. It’s been very cold here in SW Scotland since just before Christmas. For this reason I have only been feeding once a week and even then only a very small portion, about half a mug full, in fact I think my worms were eating Christmas left overs long after me, because of the small amounts I was feeding.
Last night in the worms winter quarters, that’s my greenhouse, overnight temperature dropped to -8, I do insulate well and did have a small 60watt tube heater switched on under the bins. A small 60w tube heater costs about £4 for the whole winter if just used at night on a timer switch, if anybody is interested.
The food they got today included some sweet/bell pepper (which I find they love even the core and stems, particularly the red ones) a couple of apple cores, some banana peel and some Brussels sprout trimmings.
I’m pleased to say the worms look health and were active.
Hope you are all warm and well

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
I’m checking and feeding once a week here. It has been cold here but i hope my insulation is sufficient, didn’t want to disturb them in this weather. Been feeding with fruit peelings and some cooked parsnip and celeriac from soup stock which they love. More concerned about my tumbling composter which now has more worms than my wormeries, but is less well insulated and is outside compared to the wormeries in the garage, will check them at th3 weekend when it warms up a bit....
Re: What did you feed your worms today?
Today my worms got bacon and lentil soup. My daughter made it but I don’t think to turned out the way she expected. My worms have never had bacon and lentil soup before so have no expectations therefore won’t be disappointed in the offering.

I could have given mine some vegetable soup, but would have been worried how wet it was for the bin, you remove the liquid first?
Re: What did you feed your worms today?
No, I pulled out a big dip in the bedding added a handful of shredded paper and cardboard, put soup on top (about half a cup per bin) more bedding put on top.

PS Lentil soup of fairly thick

I think with thiner soup I would thicken with dry shredded paper first, and still add more paper to the feeding place.

You have got me thinking now. You could thicken soup, for your worms, with mashed potatoes, a very slices of bread, handful of porridge oats. Just don’t feed to much in one go. I don’t like spending money on worm food so my choice would be stale bread.
