why no weeds?

Post by Ferdie » Sat Apr 22, 2023 9:20 am

We had a wormery for years at our previous home (not in UK) & used to throw in weeds sometimes. We never seemed to have a problem - weeds hadn't been sprayed - and worms thrived. What's the reason for NOT recommending weeds in the mixture: is it that there will be some seeds in the compost?
By the way, our worms were completely underwater for two days during floods one year, and were perfectly OK afterwards, despite the floodwater being heavily contaminated. Well done chaps!

Seeds are probably the reason. I don’t tend to bother with them and give my wormery worms the finer stuff. My tumbling composter, which has more worms than my wormeries do get weeds at times, that or the compost heap.
