I have 12 dead rose flower heads (remnants from Valentine’s Day). I was going to cut them up and feed them to the worms but wondered if the sent would be a problem?

The actual flowers will be no problem they will breakdown quickly, the stems may take a while to breakdown but if you are in no rush they will not be a problem.
The smell of roses will make a nice change for your worms compared to the normal vegetable waste.

Thanks WillyWorm. Yes, I was thinking of just the heads. Yes, the smell change will be interesting!

By way of an update, i added more woodlice to each wormery. The worms appeared happy and a number of the original woodlice i added were not so visible, but found a few in lower trays pottering around. I will keep an eye to see how visible they will be next time i check.

Thanks lilwriggler. The woodlice will help breakup some of the harder stuff ready for the microbes and worms to move in.

I’m not convinced the woodlice are too happy in there. There are a fair few dead woodlice as well as some that seem fine. Not sure whether they are different species, but the same woodlice seemed happy in the compost bin they were harvested from. I will see how they progress.

My woodlice seem to come and go and see to like it when I add damp leaves as bedding. I have not seen dead woodlice in my bin.
