Hiya

sorry about the delay in replying - had a busy day / weekend !!!!!

Thanks for the comments, We know we sell the best wormery available so we try to give you pictures, measurements, volumes to be able to back up our claims. We believe in our product, and have absolutly nothing to hide, which is why we created the comparison page.

Anyway.....

Garden Lime - this neutralises acid in a wormery and no we don't supply it with our wormeries.
This is why

Lime is basically pulverized limestone or chalk - or as its also known - calcium carbonate.
If your wormery goes acidic (a PH of 7 or lower) the worms can dislike the conditions and leave the wormery.
Most wormery sellers tell you to add a handful of lime every few weeks, which could really upset your worms because your worms are quite adaptable and can handle slightly acidic conditions.
By adding the lime you will change the acidity level by a lot, therefore upsetting the fine balance of the wormery (which will be a little ecosystem on its own) adding too much lime will swing the wormery too far the other way and make it strongly alkaline (PH of 7 or higher)

Unless you have a PH tester you wont actually know if your wormery is acidic or not, therefore adding lime can be potentially upsetting or harmful for the worms.

This brings us to another point. As i said earlier Lime is also known as chalk or calcium carbonate - most people have calcium carbonate in their houses in the form of egg shells.
You want to be recyling your household waste, therefore - next time you have eggs, save the eggshells, put them on a baking tray and cook them in the oven.
This will dry them out - then simply put in a bag or use a pestle and crush / grind them up. The result is free lime / chalk which you can sprinkle on your wormery.

Keeping your wormery balanced with shredded paper/ cardboard will also help maintain its PH

Hope that helps to explain the reasons

Ronnie

If you bake the eggshells it will dry them out, and it is easier to break them to get the powder.
