Re: Ants in wormery
Hi ants will not harm your worms but they are not an addition that most of us want in our bin. When ants move in it is a clear indication of a dry bin wetting the bin and moving the bedding around are the best ways to deal with the problem, it may take a while but the ants will move on. You can use ...

Re: Do I add compost to a new layer?
Hi, there are NO stupid questions. Thanks for asking your question. For a beginner it is difficult to know when to add another tray. After you have got used to it and know what to look for you will notice a different texture between the finished worm casting and the soil and part fished castings in ...

Re: 2nd tray added but most of worms still in bottom tray
Hi your first tray should be your bottom tray. All food and feeding should be in the top tray. Sometimes it is difficult to get the herd to move up so you can harvest the casting from the bottom tray. Here are a few ideas which may help you move them. Move your first tray to the top and rig up a lig...

Re: Frozen fruit
Yea they will love them plus they will welcome all the trimming from this years fruit as well. If you have hot weather you don’t need to thaw the fruit out just put it in one area of your bin, the worms will use it like an air conditioner moving closer to is when they want to cool down and away if t...

Great, things are going in the right direction. Egg boxes are good because will hold air in the bin.
Thanks for the update

Re: Potworms or start again
Hi Poppi, welcome to the forum. Pot worms are small, about one inch/2.5cm long and very white. They are very common in worm bins and seem to appear from nowhere and multiply in a blink of an eye. The good news is they are harmless to you and your worms, in fact they are beneficial to the composting ...

Re: 6ish Weeks in, what do I do now?
Yea you thinking is good but the population a bin will hold I’d based on the surface area not the cubic capacity. The capacity of a Wormcity bin is approximately 2,250 worms that is based on 1,000 worms per square foot/30cc. The speed of breeding can be increased by running the bin a little wetter t...

Re: 6ish Weeks in, what do I do now?
Seems like a good idea to me. Try to ensure the compost you use is made up of diverse materials or use it like bedding and add some kitchen scrapes with it. You did say you wanted to make your worms more productive but did not say in what area, making babies, producing casting or size. My reply shou...

Re: My worms seem to be quite fussy eaters
Hi you could try small amounts on apple core, banana peel, trimming from mushrooms and tomatoes, tee leaves etc. It may take a few days before you start to see the food disappearing but when they start it will go quickly. Once you feed don’t add any more food until the earlier food is gone. A new se...
