Re: What to do with a tray which isn’t breaking down
It looks like tissue paper too me, but it may have a bit of cotton mix in it? I don’t put the sawdust/woodchip in that goes in the compost heap! I will try and take some photos!

What to do with a tray which isn’t breaking down
My most advanced tray (probably a good 5 months old) is in a state which isn’t breaking down. The hamster bedding is very slow to break up and in some instances balls up a bit. My worms appear to have mostly moved on from this tray into all the others. It is a little bit on the drier side, but I was...

Re: Rain escapees
Nice to share experiences, i’m always keen to read other peoples and am always happy to see a new post on here. I haven’t done the wrap up here yet, it is still pretty warm. I now wonder whether it is the change in pressure that encourages the escapism, or the vibrations of the rain as it can’t be w...

Re: Rain escapees
Number of escappes has reduced, probably as the temperature drops a bit. But i have been putting some of the escappees in my rotating composter which is full now and being left for the winter. Its says You can do that, musn’t rotate it too much though, if it at all. I did one rotation today and to m...

Re: Why is the sky so high?
I still have food from the original delivery. I find a nice piece of cardboard as a multipurpose cover/protection/food source/moisture regulator in my top tray, very satisfying as they steadily break it down. I worry that i overfeed some times, doing four corners plus cardboard and now some leaf lit...

Re: Rain escapees
The leaf litter seems to have helped and with it in the garage there isn’t much additional water getting in. Hopefully i will get the balance right soon. Still finding tiger worms under the bin outside put only 3 or 4 now, not sure if they are wild ones i am just adding back to the wormery!

Re: Harvesting a tray
I think you will all ways have eggs and little ones in there, and willy doesn’t seem to worry about losing a few in the harvesting process. Trying to pick up little worms is a nightmare with clumsy fingers!

Re: Worms are here!
Great!
I would check tomorrow though as you may well have a few escapees in the first few days while they settle in! The best tip i can give is keep the garage light on the first couple of days which will limit it! Thats if it’s in a garage! Good luck, i’ve loved having my wormery, 10 months now.

Re: Rain escapees
I’ll look at the too wet issue, which i think is most likely. Planning on adding so dry leaf litter to my bottom tray as the hamster bedding seems to take a long time to properly breakdown. Should help the wetness side of things, will move it in sooner rather than later.
