Re: What did you feed your worms today?
Today my worms got some stringy runner beans from the allotment and some tomato's which had fallen off the vine on to the ground in the greenhouse. These were blended together into a pulp in the food processor (don't tell the wife)

Re: Slugs in the worm bin

Re: Slugs in the worm bin
Hi Birchfield Slugs will not hurt your worms. In nature they are part of the composting process.their "poo" is as good as worm casting for your garden or plot. However if left in the worm bin they will breed and lay eggs, these could end up being spread around your garden along with your worm castin...

Re: excessive condensation?
Hi medee, welcome to the world of worms. You say you have condensation in the lid and in the reservoir (sump). In the sump is it just condensation/dampness or is there water gathering. If it is just condensation it is perfectly normal and may be due to no more than the temperature fluctuation betwee...

Re: Advantages of vermicompost as worm bedding
Hi pippa. You will find many differing opinions regarding the best way to care for your worms both in this forum and on the net. if something works for you then go with it. If your worms appear healthy, happy and are breeding in their own castings, providing you are happy with that, then great. You ...

Re: Advantages of vermicompost as worm bedding
Hi pippa, if you look at what Pilkington is say it is similar to what you will find on this forum. He says "it's inoculated with millions of microbes needed to start decomposition. Using freshly worked vermicompost as initial bedding is almost as important us initial worms" from this I think he his ...

Re: How much paper is too much?
I would mix something like a tablespoon (no need to measure just giving an idea of amount lol) of sand into each tray. You can add a little more from time to time if you think it needs it. You could add a little ground up egg shell at the same time. Not too much egg shell because it is a form of lim...

Re: How much paper is too much?
Hi Pippa, everything sounds good :) If your worms are moving into the new tray there is no need to move any compost. The reason you are seeing more worms on the top of the frist bin is because they are in the dark and the top of the old bin is no longer the top of their world, now they have move th...

Re: How much paper is too much?
Hi Pippa, it sounds like things are going well. I need a little information so I can help with the moisture thing. How long have you had this bin up and running? Is the bin outside or inside? Have you move some of the compose from the first bin in to the new second bin? Relax about the amount of p...
