RE: Checking bottom layers
Hi ellseyfant, you seem to be having a run of it. From what you wrote above your worm keeping is anything but "terrible". The way you responded to the situation was exactly right. I'm not clear if your worms left the bin or just went up into the lid. Once settled worms rarely leave a place where the...

RE: Some help
Hi Allan, welcome to the forum and to the world of worms. 30mm does seem big, 20 or 30 holes of 5mm would be sufficient for drainage. Many people do not put holes in a wooden box if it is made of planks of wood but if it's made of ply you will need them. Feeding of worms is not difficult, they will ...

RE: Tomato seeds
As long as they are not from a f1 variety of toms they should be fine and come true to form. Good luck let us known how they get on.

RE: Checking bottom layers
Hi elleyfant, the casting you collected last week will be fine, just spread it out and expose it to some fresh air by turning it over a couple of times. If you think a tray is too wet rather than stressing your heard, more than you need to, just sprinkle a little dry shredded paper on the top, this w...

RE: Checking bottom layers
Hi Wormy, I think you are right, there is a lot of nutrients and goodness in leachate which should not be wasted. It's seems you are also a little cautious about the way in which you use it, "no smell" and "only on mature plants" you did not mention if you diluted it and if so to what degree? I thi...

RE: Checking bottom layers
I can't remember what I put in tbh - either paper or cardboard. Either way - it's long gone. I left all the trays in over the winter because it's supposed to be better for planting the seeds in if it's not been stored away from worms. I don't feed them anywhere near as much as you... Just start...

RE: Mice and rats
Like Ronnie says any container which holds food stuff will attract rats and mice. Like you I have had mice in my, outside, compost bins and no double rats have visited from time to time. My stacking worm bins sit outside in the summer and are in the greenhouse over winter and I have never seen any ...
