Re: Wet and claggy
I’m still having issues with that bottom tray, it is still very wet despite card board wicking and some dried leaves i added, just not making a big difference. There was a little liquid, less than a tea spoon full, in the sump but i squeezed the castings and got plenty of water. I am thinking there ...

Re: Wet and claggy
Will do, my new wormery 95% of my worms are in one corner eating an old bit of banana, they love it!

Re: Wet and claggy
Ah, interesting i had never thought about maturing the castings, i have just used them straight off. I have also got some cereal to use up so will use a bit of that next too.

Re: Wet and claggy
The amount of liquid in the sump is literally a tea spoon full so not much and i empty that each day if there is any in there. The cardboard i had put in the claggy bottom tray was now wet so that has been removed ( thanks for that idea i hadn’t thought of removing it). I have put some new one in, s...

Wet and claggy
The bottom tray in my wormery has had a bit of a soaking a couple of weeks ago is now very heavy and claggy , more like heavy soil than compost. Consequently i have lost a few worms in the sump who seem to almost rot. I am not sure whether they have drowned and are breaking down or whether they are ...

Re: Flying insects
Gnats i think. If you put some clean cardboard as a layer over your top feeding tray it will probably deter them.

Re: Extra trays
New wormery has arrived, so excited. I am now thinking of splitting my 2 tray in half where most of the population resides. Half in the old wormery, half in the new to hopefully have two viable populations. Will have a bottom tray in each and a feeding tray in each.

Re: Newspaper shredded or otherwise
I would suggest you can use either, shredded is probably better, but i put cardboard in my top tray in largish pieces and they love that. You will get some escappees, but they don’t like the light so during daylight, and if you leave the garage light on for a night or two it should limit escapees! G...

Re: Extra trays
I currently have 4 trays in my existing wormery(tray 4 is the oldest and most broken down, 3 is quite well broken down, 2 is my last feeding tray and decomposing, 1 is my current feeding tray). When the new one arrives i am thinking of moving tray 3 across to the new wormery, but it is likely the po...
