Re: Lid of wormery
Hi both, found this interesting as my wormery lid doesn't fit snugly either but I had always assumed it was meant to be like that so that it lets in some air. It isn't raised all the way around, just rests on the tabs at the front as in your photo. It's not raised on the tabs all the way round as th...

Re: Wormery sump tap leak
Many thanks Willy - will do or if not I'm sure I can get some washers at a hardware store, should hopefully stop the leak. Meanwhile the wormery is in the shed and I've put a polythene on the floor so it catches the drips!

Wormery sump tap leak
I've noticed the sump on my wormery is leaking, I replaced it a little while back thinking that there was a hole in the sump itself as I couldn't work out why there was leachate accumulating on the floor, but it's leaking again so it seems to be down to the tap arrangement as it just has the plastic...

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
So relieved to find my worms eagerly returning to the top tray for food again after the recent long spell of sub-zero temps! Once it had warmed up, they went mad for chopped red cabbage mixed with apple (it sort of becomes a pickle - must say, it smells delicious!). Definitely a favourite. Today's m...

I've discovered that both my husband and my worms love red cabbage!

Re: No worms in my garden soil
Hi, just to clarify in case there was a misunderstanding about my suggestion, I personally wouldn't buy earthworms to feed birds, especially as many species don't eat them anyway, also agree about growing natural plants etc. Just noticed on perusing wildbird food seller websites that some do (or did...

Re: No worms in my garden soil
Hi - don't know if this will help but I know that some wild bird/wildlife food suppliers have sold (alongside mealworms) small packs of live earthworms for feeding to our avian friends. You could perhaps try and source some this way and then re-home them in your garden soil? Good luck with it all an...

Re: Wet and claggy
Just to add to this, I've only ever used shredded newspaper for bedding (with very occasional small handful of ageing leaves / some torn-up egg cartons just added in for variety!) I've had the wormery a year and a half and seem to have a happy, productive herd. (I don't shred it finely, just tear it...

Re: Harvesting a tray
The radishes and shallots sound like a good idea Lilwriggler. I'm also hoping to harvest a tray in the next few weeks, the bottom one of three in place at the moment. But I checked it yesterday and it had just two pairs of large worms "using" it very happily by the look of it... seems they'd gone do...

Re: Wormery lid.
Hi Pete and welcome to the world of worms - just to say that the lid IS meant to let in air so it isn't flush. I thought it was meant to be a tight fit when I first got mine and couldn't figure out why the lid had those four little corner legs, but it's exactly so that it allows an air gap and doesn...
