strange ....
worms usually only leave if they don't like their surroundings, they hadn't gone down into the sump, or curled up in the newspaper at all ?

Re: Hello and Help!
Hi
Definatly sounds as if they were overfed, especially i it really smelt bad.
make sure that you slow down the feeding especially in the winter - as the worms don't process food as quickly in the cold weather

Re: Hello and Help!
Hi Did your wormery smell, usually when it goes anerobic its because too much food has been added. however you mentioned that you mixed up the contents a few days before. Was there any possibility that something was added to the wormery that caused the worms to die, as usually if you have other tray...

Re: Ants
The queen is a huge ant - and you would probably notice if she had moved in as she would make a nest.
The ants are attracted to the food - so try the vaseline or stand the legs in water to prevent the ants getting into the wormery in the 1st place

Re: Worms Breeding Under Lid
Hi Do you have some sheets of damp newspaper on the very top ? Worms seem to like to live under something and usually by having paper / cardboard over the top keeps them happy. Make sure that the wormery isnt too wet, and that there isnt any smell (ie that the worms are trying to get away from somet...

Re: sump drainage tap?
Hi
Yes this is correct - you will need to tip the wormery forward slightly so that the liquid can drain.....

Re: Ants
Hi Usually ants like dry conditions and generally move out if the wormery is too wet. Its best to ensure that they hadn't made a nest as the ants will take the worm eggs. A couple of tips..... 1) smear vasaline around the sump so that the ants cant climb into the wormery 2) Ive heard cinamon/ paprik...

Re: It isnt really working
Hi The worms may move down, they might need to be physically taken though ! if you were to buy worms i would put them in the lower tray, make sure that the conditions are favourable in there - or else they will move away again Wait a few weeks for the waste already present to break down before feedi...
