Re: Feeding Worms
From memory bread isn’t great, it is best added in winter to generate a bit of heat as it decomposes if your bin is getting too cold, but i dont use bread, i think there are other reasons around limiting bread. Grapes are fine and fresh scraps are absolutely fine too as they will start to break down...

Re: Lid of wormery
My two wormeries, as a further comparison, sit better than those pictures. They kindly replaced a lid for me when my second wormery came down.

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
Soup simply hadn’t entered my mind!, they will have some kiwi and melon peelings along with mashed celeriac and parsnip later

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
I could have given mine some vegetable soup, but would have been worried how wet it was for the bin, you remove the liquid first?

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
I’m checking and feeding once a week here. It has been cold here but i hope my insulation is sufficient, didn’t want to disturb them in this weather. Been feeding with fruit peelings and some cooked parsnip and celeriac from soup stock which they love. More concerned about my tumbling composter whic...

Re: Tray gaps
I was like you at the beginning, but as i have got more confident i am filling my trays more. Given winter my feeding tray is almost full with bedding material for insulation, but i find that the tray below will quickly reduce down to a third in size as everything breaks down. Once i add a new feedi...

Re: Setting up another worrmery
I did exactly the same last spring actually, although i will be interested what Willy advises. I think i moved the the tray below the feeding tray across and whilst my old wormeries’ population has bounced right back to previous levels, my new wormery has fewer worms in comparison, although still a ...

Re: Winter
You will still need to feed them, but less often, they don’t hibernate, just slow down a bit. It is good to cover them to prevent rain getting in and insulate around the wormery to ensure it doesn’t get too cold (i.e. risk of them freezing). I wrap around the wormery with some old carpet, but i also...

Re: Wet and claggy
Without wishing to cause bad luck, since i added the spent compost to my bottom trays and stored the wormeries in the garage, it seems to have solved the problem and my worms are much happier and rarely venture into the sump. One tray, of three, is now ready to harvest and i will add a new tray at t...
