Re: Time to compost a tray
All seems to be going well! The mix for compost depends partly on what you intend to use the compost for. If it's to pot up trees, shrubs or large plants which will remain in the pot a long while I would use a 4 to 1 mix. For a general potting compost about a 10 to 1 mix. Worm castings/compost is go...

Re: Time to compost a tray
I have a lot of broad bean pods from the garden at the moment. I find the worms will eat them if I chop them up but there not a favourite by a long way. Mine are almost jumping out the tray for over ripe strawberries at the moment. Have fun say hi to your worms from me lol

Re: Time to compost a tray
It seems to be going very well. Time means very little to our worms. Add another tray at anytime, if the bedding is starting to look like soil then is a good time to put another tray on top. The worms will continue to work the first tray until all the food and bedding is consumed. Your worms will no...

Re: Potatoes
Hi, the only problem with feeding potatoes and potato peel is it can be slow to be consumed. This is true of all root crops and any thing that grows undergrond. Evolution has provided these crops with protection against decay from soil born bacteria. Our worms need the bacteria to brake down the foo...

Re: Putting bio-degradable corn starch bags into the wormery
Hi, worms can eat UP TO 50% of their own body weight of food each day. Worms do not just consume the kitchen waste we fed them but also the bedding we provide. So in ideal conditions 500gr of worms can eat UP TO 250gr of food. Maybe only half of the actual food they consume will be kitchen waste the...

Re: Putting bio-degradable corn starch bags into the wormery
Hi, I've never tried it but I can see no reason why you cant put them in. The only thing is 5lt bag of kitchen waste is far to much for a standard worm bin so you may still need to empty stuff from the bag. I have a caddy into which I put all the kitchen waste, this goes to my outdoor compost heaps ...
