Re: Rain escapees
I have a regular number of escapees in general at the moment and not sure why. Still have plenty of healthy worms in all levels. perhaps my bottom tray is a bit wet or i’m not varying their food source enough. There is cardboard covering my feed tray and a piece in the bottom tray which they are ste...

Re: Where should my wormery live?
Yes absolutely. Mine is on concrete or in the garage in winter. Just have a bin or something similar next to the wormery so if a few escape its the first damp spot the worms find. Then you can recover and put them back. Once they are breeding you won’t notice any occasional wanderers who get further!

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
Fed the critters been tops and tails, but not a huge amount of action yet, perhaps they are still a little too fresh and need to breakdown a bit....

Re: Rain escapees
That makes sense, they are up and down in the wormery over the course of the day and it is principally around dampness in the lid.

Rain escapees
It is very noticeable that the herd seem to panic a bit when there is significant summer rainfall and water in the sump. I checked today after yesterdays rain and there were more than 50 escapees under the bins next to the wormery. The spot is reasonably sheltered from the elements for summer, but i...

Re: Harvesting a tray
First harvest completed today, which was satisfying. Just couldn’t decide where i wanted to use it in the garden....... tried to return any eggs i spotted back into the wormery as well as all the bigger worms....

Re: Harvesting a tray
Your herd must be processing the food quickly! To be fair my bottom tray must be 6.5 months old ish. I just need that confidence to see enough castings in a tray before i move up. Enjoyed having a cardboard layer on top and now watching them come through it. All the original coir is gone which is al...

Harvesting a tray
I’m in the process of adding my next tray, will start putting food in it in the next couple of weeks. My bottom tray weighs a tonne, but it is mostly broken down. There is however still a bit of bedding material not quite rotted off and still quite a few worms, odd ones in the sump too. Should i wai...

Re: Newbie with 2 week old wormery
From what i’ve read its far better to be on the drier side than the wetter side, the heat generated in my wormery tends to generate condensation in the lid which falls back into the top tray, or more likely adventurous worms venture through. As long as your wormery isn’t in direct sun and overheats ...

Re: Tissue
Cool, i will mix it with card board and eggboxes to get the mix right, nice to be recycling those type of things back into the garden!
