Re: What did you feed your worms today?

Today my worms got Haggis, tatties (potatoes) and neeps (sweet). My wife found it in the freezer, we cooked it sometime ago and there was some left I had intended frying up for breakfast (bit like bubble and squeak)but it’s not looking so inviting now. I hope the worms enjoy it, haggis can be a litt...

Re: My newish wormcity

Hi Cadzeat, sounds like you are having a lot of success with your worm bin. I also live in Scotland down in the southwest, In March my greenhouse was getting up to 38c so it was time to get the worms out, I did so and the weather changed back to rain and frost over night 😟 You can use wet leaves but...

Re: My newish wormcity

Hi Calzeat, welcome to the forum. All stacking worm bins are prone to flooding in the rain. Re: Increasing wormery efficiency

My woodlice seem to come and go and see to like it when I add damp leaves as bedding. I have not seen dead woodlice in my bin.

Re: What did you feed your worms today?

Hi lilwriggler, should be good. The carbon to nitrogen ratio of cotton is somewhere between 22:1 and 27:1 so cotton can be used as a food item. I have found with some cotton items that the thread used to hold it together, is not cotton and needs to be fished out later, this may not affect your pads....

Re: Increasing wormery efficiency

Thanks lilwriggler. The woodlice will help breakup some of the harder stuff ready for the microbes and worms to move in.

Re: Increasing wormery efficiency

The actual flowers will be no problem they will breakdown quickly, the stems may take a while to breakdown but if you are in no rush they will not be a problem.
The smell of roses will make a nice change for your worms compared to the normal vegetable waste.

An added benefit is that they have been known to eat slug eggs.
