Re: Starting up a Second Wormery
Another update. Having had some reasonably warm temperatures recently I decided to destack both wormeries and give all of the trays a fluff up and restack them. I am pleased to say that all is as I expected with good population of worms in both. Some observations to share. Since August/September I h...

Re: Hope everyone's worms ok in the cold snap
Hi. Just checked on mine. All seem ok. Not much consumption this time of year. I have plenty of cardboard, paper etc in there. I don’t like to disturb them too much during the cold spell, rather keep them wrapped up.

Re: Starting up a Second Wormery
Just as an update. Both wormeries are doing well. No escapees that I can see. Both are taking food so it’s been a success. Now for building up the populations in them. Thanks for the advice, Red.

Re: Starting up a Second Wormery
2nd wormery arrived today. I have done the splitting of the top 2 trays and followed your recommendations Willy. Lilwriggler, I don’t know how you can tell how many worms you have. I just assumed that most would be in the top 2 trays and did a 50% split of them. Feeding trays on both are now a mix o...

Re: Starting up a Second Wormery
Thanks Willy, great suggestions! I am on it! I will let you know how it goes. By the way, the wife thinks I am mad but is supportive of the venture!

Re: Starting up a Second Wormery
I have gone for bin only! I am tight too! Here is my strategy to minimise escapees. See what you think: My original bin is a 4 tray. However, you actually get 5 trays as one of them is supposed to be upturned to become the base. I did not do this as I thought it was much more valuable as a future tr...

Starting up a Second Wormery
Hi Willy. Thanks for all of your advice so far. I am now nearly a year in on my first wormery and it has been a great success thanks to this forum and your advice. So much so that I am considering buying a second. However, some more advice on this please. I think I have 2 options. Either to buy just...

Re: Using Spent Compost
Please let us know how you get on with it. I have also cut up some cardboard (egg box) into small pieces and put it in with todays food. When I next have some corrugated I will cut that up and also start adding it. In regards to food, I have an abundance at this time of year. All the trimmings from ...

Re: Using Spent Compost
Sounds similar to me before I started with using spent compost. Obviously spent compost adds quite a lot of bulk to the tray to start with and contains many of the bugs and enzymes already. Only thing I can think of is to cut the cardboard into very small pieces so it can be dug into. Red.

Re: Using Spent Compost
Thanks Willy. Yes, sounds like I am on track. I do expect things to slow down once the temperature starts to drop off but I should be able to get another tray harvested before then. As always, thanks for the advice. Red.
