Hope everyone's worms ok in the cold snap
Hope everyone has had a good Christmas. Just wondering how people have managed through the recent freezing temperatures (yourselves as well as your worms!) Hope all have survived intact! I was very worried about my herd in the prolonged sub-zero nights and at one point it dropped to -8. They are in ...

Re: Heat management
Hope everyone's worms survived the heatwave unscathed (and you too!). Happy and relieved to report that mine are ok, and happily tucking into their feed this morning. Very grateful for the suggestions here to help keep the wormery cool throughout the intense temperatures

Re: Heat management
I'm in Suffollk, the hottest part of the country yesterday, so quite a worry. Keep popping down to the shed to re-wet towels and old Tshirts draped over the wormery itself, also hanging on a makeshift washing line as suggested (amazing what you can do with a piece of garden twine, a ladder and a she...

Re: Heat management
Ah, thanks for that tip, Willy - I'm sure I could rig up some kind of clothes line in there, what a good idea (might need one inside the house too!) Also I never knew there were such things as solar fans, would be very useful as there's no electricity out there- just had a look online and yes they'r...

Re: Heat management
Many thanks for posting the question Lilwriggler, and for the helpful advice Willy. I've been wondering what to do in advance of next week's predicted extreme heat so will follow these tips. My wormery is in a shed, and although there's no direct sunlight coming in onto the bin itself as I've covere...

Hi Willy, hope they enjoy it! I sprinkled a little in mine yesterday afternoon and they are all over it this morning.

Hi Willy and thanks - would be interested to know how it works for your worms too, hopefully puts a spring in their slither!

Re: How do I know my wormery is healthy?
Hi, just wanted to add something I've discovered in recent months prompted by your lovely words about worms 'buzzing with movement'! I read somewhere (can't remember where, perhaps it was here?) that bran helps to increase our worms' vigour and breeding instincts so I've been adding just a sprinkle ...

Re: Lid of wormery
Thanks! I managed to push the lid into place this morning - more pliable now as it's older. First time I'd tried again after setting it up! Glad I know now but can confirm that having that little gap for all this time hasn't caused any issues either

Re: Lid of wormery
Hi Vinny Yes -that's exactly how mine is - thanks for clarifying with the photo from this angle. It hasn't caused me any problems in over two years having that little gap; I'm comfortable knowing there's good air circulation and (now long-settled) the worms don't want to get out, apart from a few on...
