Re: Worms and compost in sump
I have the same problem. I’ve had my wormery for 2 years and never managed to put on more than one tray. I’m just ending up with sludge in the sump, along with worms. I’ve done everything I can think of - crumpled newspaper in the sump, always adding the same amount of torn up cardboard etc as green...

Re: New wormery - one week in
Hello again. Sorry to be a nuisance but I just had a quick look in the sump and not only are worms there but it looks as if there’s also compost. I didn’t want to disturb them so it was just a quick peek. Should I leave well alone or should I move it all back up to my first tray?

Re: New wormery - one week in
Thought I’d provide an update on my worm journey, particularly to show that patience seems t9 be the way to go. After coming up to three months, my worms seem to be thriving. I’m still only feeding them occasionally, checking to see if there’s much left before adding some more. I’d like to ask a cou...

I’ll bear that in mind. I was struggling to decide whether to give them girls or boys names anyhow

Re: New wormery - one week in
Thanks Willy, I’ll try that with the next feed. I don’t mind trial and error as long as I don’t cause any harm to my worms - I’m getting quite maternal!

Re: New wormery - one week in
Thank you for that. It was just that the instructions said to always put food under paper to keep away from fruit flies etc. Would you recommend some old carpet or not do anything different?

Re: New wormery - one week in
Hi, me again. Worms are starting to eat the scraps I’ve put out. My question now is, I’ve put the food under new damp newspaper as it says in the instructions, but wondered if I should put it under the newspaper I put in the wormery originally. Otherwise will I not get a mountain of newspaper if I p...

Re: New wormery - one week in
Hi. I’ve removed the leek and potato peelings (luckily I had followed instructions and only used a very small amount) and replaced with banana skin and a little cabbage ( in a different area). I will check tomorrow to see how things are going. The paper wasn’t dry as I thought so just leaving that. ...

Re: New wormery - one week in
Hi. I was just going to post with a panicky question - my worms haven’t eaten anything, even though I sprinkled a little worm food over the food to encourage them after a day. Just checked now and still nothing eaten but now that I’ve read your post, I’ll take out what I’ve put in and try something ...
