Re: 1st worm bin

Good news that the amount is less

The reason they wander is because the wormery is too sterile in the beginning,
Make sure you added some old compost to the mixture.

Don't stress too much about the odd one or 2, they breed quite quickly and are soon replaced

Re: Help! Too many pot worms?

Put the eggshells in the oven and cook them you can then use a rolling pin or similar on them to grind into a powder This is perfect for the wormery as not only does it gently change the PH as Willy says but it also gives the worms grit in their gizzard. This will help them grind the food better Ron...

Re: Worm Liquid - Leachate

Hi Yes, I agree it is confusing! I think the problems come primarily when the liquid is in an airtight compartment, then the anaerobic bacteria can flourish. We have been selling wormeries now for over 12 years and in all that time, I have never had a single customer, report that there has been a de...

Re: Overwintering your wormery

Of course, the problem we have in the UK is that we just don't know how cold it's going to be

Sometimes it just rains or like last year it gets really really cold

Horticultural fleece is cheap and readily available and can be wrapped around or placed over the wormery

Re: Blocked tap and sump full of dirt

The liquid carries the vermicompost down into the sump and then out through the tap The best way to stop it from going into the tap is to put a piece of material on the back (like a bit of old tshirt / tights etc) and secure with an elastic band This will allow the liquid to seep out but not get blo...
