Restarting old wormery
I stopped using my wormery early last year as I stopped gardening and turned the contents into an empty black council compost bin, worms et all! I have now started gardening again and that council bin has flourished with seemingly thousands of tiger worms happily surviving. I have been adding suitab...

Re: Worm Liquid - Leachate
Bit of a late reply but thought I'd add my experience for what it's worth. I did a bit of experimenting last summer and fed a couple of plants on diluted leachate, one in ten as mentioned and slowly increased the amount till it was all leachate. I have seen no negative effects at all but the test pl...

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
I got one of those hand pull little food processors which has been such a bonus in feeding my lot. Just a few pulls of the cord and it shreds even the toughest melon peels easily. It's small, on the drainingboard and on the go constantly, just watch your fingers when rinsing the part with the terrib...

Re: Leachate friend or foe
I've used it on my plants both indoors and in the garden but much more diluted and with very good results. But only use it when absolutely no smell and collected almost as soon as it's produced. I seem to have very small amounts of liquid but it totally depends on what I put in as wormfood. I have j...

RE: Worms venturing up n down during the night
European nightcrawler, love that, pretty good description.
If I'd ever have to separate the tigers from the other guests I'd best do it at night then

RE: Leaving worms for 2 weeks in winter?
Hi klompie. Food won't be a problem at this time of year. When your worms are in a cooler place they eat less. Feed the amount you would normally feed but if possible add shredded corrugated cardboard too fill the top tray. The cardboard will provide additional insulation and will also be used as f...

Leaving worms for 2 weeks in winter?
Hi, I'm going away for a cple of weeks at the end of December.
My worms are indoors at the moment but I intend to put them in the back porch which is enclosed but not heated. My question is how much and what kind of food to leave and do I stock them up with shredded paper as well?
Thanks.

Worms venturing up n down during the night
I brought my wormery inside a month ago and as I'm a bit of an insomniac I occasionally peek in during the night to see what's happening in their world. I was really surprised to see masses of them up in the roof and equally as many in the sump. Didn't know quite what to make of this the first time ...

RE: Wads of wet paper
Thanks Willy and Wiggle. I started my bin about 4 weeks ago, so it's good to know this is normal. No I haven't added water or wetted paper, just dry. I've been breaking up clumps as you adviced. And they're in an outhouse so no rain coming in. I'll just keep an eye on sogginess and stop worrying!
