Re: Flying insects
They flew off and have not returned. I suspect I created the problem myself by putting a dead bouquet in the wormery - I would normally have taken that sort of thing to the local tip, but the tip was closed because of lockdown and the rubbish collections went haywire. My suspicion is that the eggs w...

My wormery is full of flying insects. Picture attached. What are they and how do I get rid of them?

Leopard slugs
I keep finding slugs in the wormery as suggested in the FAQs, regularly remove them. But other sites say slugs can be beneficial, depending on what kind they are. Almost all the slugs who make it to adulthood (given the number of tiny ones I throw out, I have no idea how the things manage to grow up...

Paper
I had a problem with ants, moistened the wormery as advised, and then had a problem with pot worms. So my next step was to empty the contents of my shredder into the wormery to soak up the excess moisture. They clearly liked it as most of the shredded paper has gone, as has quite a bit of the shredd...

Re: Ants
I’ve given it a good stir, couldn’t find evidence of a nest so maybe they are interlopers after all. Although the cardboard ‘topper’ has dried out the stuff underneath is damp, can squeeze a tiny bit of water out.. I’ll soak the cardboard and add more water and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice...

Ants
I thought I was doing so well ... but all of a sudden the wormery is teeming with ants. I don’t think they are visiting, I think there is a nest. So, presumably if I dig around I’ll find a queen? Destroying her will help get rid of the rest?? I saw an old post about sprinkling cinnamon and paprika i...

Re: Compostable bags
Ta. The more I think about the more I am sure that bag must have been in the wormery for six months or more. And all that’s happened in the way of breaking down is that it looks like any old plastic bag. Maybe it needs the heat of a proper compost heap to break down properly, but its continued exist...

Compostable bags
I was digging through the wormery, as one does, when I came across a plastic bag. Took me a while to realise it was the ghost of a compostable bag. So the question is: should I be using compostable bags in the wormery at all? Will they eventually degrade and get eaten, or not?

RE: Tadpole like creatures in the wormery liquid
No nasty smell, so I went ahead and used the liquid. The tadpole like creatures were about half the size of frog tadpoles. I certainly got more liquid than I expected - the wormery has only been going for about 8 weeks. Maybe it is too wet, though there are a few ants in there which I thought meant ...

Tadpole like creatures in the wormery liquid
title says it. Just took the first liquid off my relatively new wormery and it is full of little tadpole like creatures swimming around.
What are they? Beneficial or sign of a problem?
