Relocating my wormery to ...
I've just relocated my wormery after the offer to use an approx. 300 sqm garden (private allotment) that has a shed with verandah, veg patches, water tanks (run off), 5 apple trees and two pear trees, and a stretch of Cherry Laurel hedge. For the first three months my wormery was in my cellar. I fou...

Re: Time to compost a tray
Since adding another tray about a week ago there's been, like a mass exodus from the old into the new one. The compost looks dark and crumbly though moist. I plan to mix it with some existing potting compost as a fertility booster. Any thoughts on what proportions/ratios to mix?

Re: Before starting set up
Hi Jonathan, I do not know the answer to your question but from experience and talking to others, worms are quite amazing at surviving in sub-optimum conditions. I guess that provided they have a degree of moisture and dark to maintain respiration and movement and with a little material to feed on t...

Pleased with progress.
My first wormery arrived here in Germany about three months ago. At first it was located on my balcony but being south facing and at times extremely hot I relocated the wormery to my cellar which has an average temperature of 20 - 22 degrees C in summer. At first some worms escaped resulting in a fe...

Where is your Wormery? Mine was...but now is...
this is an experiment. i want to discover whether keeping a wormery on a balcony is feasible. my wormery was on my apartment balcony but now is in my cellar. i started a wormery because i like to recycle kitchen waste and produce compost for growing vegetables and other plants. i have a balcony gar...

Re: What did you feed your worms today?
i obtained a bucket load of egg shells from a small local bakery, dried them out, milled them to granular powder like consistency and sprinkle a handful now and again onto the wormery. after returning from holiday we discovered a few wrinkled sprouting potatoes, a few squishy apples and some yucky c...

Re: Almost One Year In - Are They Okay?
although new to wormeries, i break up all the kitchen waste by either cutting and dicing or using a blender to virtually liquidise the waste before adding it to the wormery. this helps the process of decomposition and the smaller bits enable the worms to digest the material sooner. avocado skins are...

Re: Tray Temperature - too warm perhaps?
overnight i moved the wormery to the cellar where the temperature is a steady 20C. by the morning almost all the worms had moved back into the tray compost medium. the compost had obviously cooled to a similar temperature. what i like; it's portability. the worms can wriggle up from the draining sump.

Tray Temperature - too warm perhaps?
greetings everyone, my first wormery delivered about three weeks ago started well. i am pleased with it's progress but the weather here in south western germany has been hot the past few days which is causing me some concern. i think that the hot air temperature (26°C - 30°C) has gradually heated ...
