When we decided to make our own wormery way back in the Autumn of 2008, We never realised what a huge undertaking it would turn out to be.
Many meetings, Endless design changes, Computer aided design (cad) modifications.
All to make sure that everything fitted perfectly together.
Then came the exciting part of actually having our final wormery design actually carved out of steel......
We thought we would share some of the pictures of the manufacturing process with you
From Small Beginnings
This is what it looked like in the beginning. A huge and very heavy block of steel.
The first image of it cut to size
Getting ready to start cutting into the steel
This is the roof section being cut away. This process takes hours cutting the steel millimeter by millimeter.
See the sparks coming from the roof as the steel is cut away - Very Hot
As it cuts it gets covered with water to keep the temperature down
The end result, a perfect roof section
This is the base of the composting tray. See the cross section
The mesh base of the composting tray
Gradually cutting into the steel
The mesh base on the composting tray completly finished, and 100% perfect.
Now we need to cut out a big hole in the steel to make the sides of the tray
The tray completly cut out, the handles still need to be cut into the steel
Now it looks like a tray, you can see the handles already cut into the steel
This is the Wormcity logo actually cut into the steel, its back to front, so that it will be correct when moulded. Remember if it hasn't got our logo its not ours.
