wormery basket

Wormcity is really proud to announce the launch of our brand new wormery.

The Wormcity wormery has taken 10 months to produce and has been designed, created and manufactured in Hampshire, England.

It has lots of features that make it stand out from the crowd.

1) Obviously the 1st is that it is made locally, we believe that its important for a product that has been created to help the environment - should be just that - environmentally friendly. We didn't want to ship from China, USA or Australia - so - we made our own.

2) We made it bigger. We were lucky enough to be given a very similar wormery that is advertised as being suitable for family usage, when we actually measured it we were horrified to find that what was being advertised (and still is) at 78 litrguarenteees was in fact only 47 litres. You can be confident that our composting trays are guaranteed at 25.2 litres each. thats 75 litres over 3 trays or 100 litres over 4 trays. In a wormery size really does matter !. The footprint is only 43 cms x 43 cms so it fits nicely into a corner

3) The Wormcity Wormery trays rest on each other (as do ALL our wormeries) this is very important, as your worms need to be able to access the upper levels.

As the worms eat the waste, its loses volume, therefore if the trays don't sink downwards and stay in contact with the waste below the worms have problems reaching the higher level. Worms CAN'T jump.

4) A stable base. The Wormcity Wormery is sat on a square base, this is very strong and secure. No legs to fall off or overturn.

5) Worm steps in the sump. Although composting worms live on the surface, some naughty ones seem to want to live in the sump. Therefore our sump has steps upwards so that the worms can keep out of the liquid and can get back up into the trays.

6) Windproof lid. The Wormcity Wormery lid sits in place, if you are in a windy or exposed place you can easily tie the lid on.

7) We don't just send plenty of worms - we send 500g of them - dependant on size and age this could be anything between 750 - 1000 worms. This is the minimum amount you should start a wormery with. Don't settle for less.

8) No Gimmicks. As our Wormery is Bigger, Made in England and has 500g worms, we don't need to offer free shipping or free trays to compete. Remember at 75 litres you need to buy 5 trays of a similar wormery to be the same size. If you are unsure please contact us

Executive Wormery guarentee

wormery basketOur Executive wormery is a tough UV (ultraviolet) protected wormery. Fern green in colour it has a large surface area (the largest of any stacking wormery in the UK) this allows you to add more food, in a thinner layer.
Having food spread thinly over the top allows it to compost down faster, and keeps your worms happy and therefore create a more productive wormery.

The great thing about this wormery is that you increase the size simply by adding extra trays.
The basic model (49.69 shown above ) contains 1x sump and 1x 36 litre composting tray.

By adding extra trays you can increase your wormery size from 36 litres - to 72 litres - 108 litres - Each tray costs just 10

As a general guideline :-

  • 36 Litres - 1 sump and 1 composting tray - perfect wormery for 2 people (49.95)
  • 72 Litres - 1 sump and 2 composting trays - great wormery for 3-4 people or families (59.95)
  • 108 Litres 1 sump and 3 composting trays - fantastic wormery for families with lots of waste (69.95)

Our Wormeries are designed to slide inside each other. This ensures that the upper trays are constantly resting on the material in the lower trays, allowing free movement for the worms (As your worms eat the food, it is reduced in volume when being converted to vermicompost, if the trays don't slide down like some competitors wormeries - a space is created between the layers, worms can't Jump !!!)

  • Sump with tap (for easy removal of the liquid) measuring 40cm x 60cm x 20cm deep
  • Composting trays each measuring 40cm x 60cm x 20cm deep. (36 Litres Per Tray)
  • 500g Mixed Composting Worms (approx)

An Environmentally Friendly Way To Get Great Compost From Your Pets Poo !

2 Tray Executive Wormeryguarentee

wormery basketWhat do you usually do with your pets poo ?

Throw it in the bin, flush it down the toilet, send it to landfill ?

How about composting it

The Pet Loo wormery is based on our popular executive wormery.

It has 1 composting tray and a sump, and is incredibly easy to use.

Simply set up your worms, and the initial bedding then start adding your pets poo, and cover with damp newspaper

Your worms will love it, they will eat all the poo, and change it into vermicompost (worm poo) .

Depending on what waste is used (i.e dog or cat) we do not advise using the end compost in vegetable patches (where it would end up in the food chain) or in areas where young children would play just in case any toxins are left behind, but it is an excellent conditioner to be dug into your garden, or in pots, hanging baskets etc.

If you want to use it for gerbils, mice, hamsters - then the above warning can be disregarded, you can use all the pets bedding (straw, paper)

Also please wait for at least a week after your dog / cat has been wormed.

As a special addition to this wormery we supply it with a 1kg bag of bokashi bran (Optional).

We have found that buy sprinkling a handful over the waste every 2 - 3 weeks aids the decomposition process.

Bokashi is also proven to keep away smells and deter flies

fishing worms

composting worms

Dendrobaena are the fisherman's favourite, they grow big, wiggle like mad in cold water, and can survive for ages on the hook.
These amazing worms are also the favourite bait of many fish such as Carp, Perch, Tench, Bream and Roach.

Dendra worms have a fast reproduction rate and are really easy to breed in the correct environment.

Reproduction under ideal conditions:
1.6 cocoons per adult per week
1.1 hatchlings per cocoon
Net reproduction of 1.4 young per adult per week

Growth Rate
97-214 days from egg to maturity

From the figures above approximately ……
Every 3.5 months, each adult will have 1.4 babies
So you can see how quickly worms can reproduce themselves

You can feed them virtually anything, from vegetables to bread, teabags to pasta and waste paper to cardboard; just follow the golden rule of not feeding them too much - too quickly. Our special made Worm Food is specially formulated for rapid growth and breeding
Keep your worms warm in the winter - and in the shade in summer, and before you know it, you will have a thriving community of Dendrobaena worms, that will continue to breed, and eat most of the waste your family produces.

So you can see how easy it is to breed your own bait, and be environmentally friendly at the same time.

At Wormcity we sell Dendrobaena in 500g, 1kg and 2kg bags, fresh and wiggling straight to your door.

Why not buy a wormery as well to keep them in !!
